Nal Sarovar is a natural lake, spread across a sprawling area of over 116 sq. km. The place is located about 70km from Ahmedabad and is famous for housing vivid migrating birds. A large number migratory birds from Siberia visit this place every year. Flocks of flamingos, a great variety of ducks, geese and pelican are some of the major attractions of the place. This water bird sanctuary is like a fairyland for birds here and looks picturesque during full moon nights. A large number of islets also dot this region. Most prominent among these islets houses ancient idol of goddess Hinglaj and Bhurekha. Villagers from adjoining places come here annually to offer prayer to the goddess. Bird viewing can be enslaving experience here.
This Gir National Park is one of the favorite haunts of the adventure freaks, researchers and conservationalists. Famous for the preservation of the Asiatic Lion, it is sprawled over 1412 sq km of land at a distance of 42 kms from Junagadh in Gujarat. Other species of fauna found here are Sambar, Nilgai, Chital, Chowsingha, Wild Boar, Langur, Chinkara, Jackal, Wild Cats, Panthers, and Hares and Hyena. Several birds like Paradise Flycatchers, Indian Rollers, Crested Swifts, Gray Drongo, Black headed Cuckoo Shrike, Pied Woodpeckers, Painted Sandgrouse, Rock Bush Quail, Gray Partridge, Painted Storks and White Necked Storks can be spotted here.
Located about 195 km from Ahmedabad, the Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary is primarily home to the wild ass. Other animals residing here are gazelle, blue bull, wolf, and Indian foxes, jackal, jungle cat, hare and birds like the houbara bustard, spotted & Indian sandgrouse, francolin partridge, bustard quails, desert wheatear, desert , larks, steppe eagle, imperial eagle, flamingoes, short toed eagle, pelicans, ducks, cranes and storks.
Sloth bears, leopard, sambar, blue bull, wild boar, porcupine and variety of birds adorn this wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is at a distance of 190 km from Ahmedabad
Ratan Mahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary preserves panthers, sloth bears, large-size monkeys, langoors, jackals, antelopes and hyenas, jungle cats, foxes, honey badgers, hare, porcupines and reptiles.
